(Charles Elmer Harris)

Beni E. Kosh

After serving as a marine in North Africa, Charles Elmer Harris legally changed his name to Beni E. Kosh (meaning “Son of Ethiopia”) in order to reconnect with his Ethiopian heritage. He was part of the Cleveland African-American artist group Sho-nuff Art Group, and often exhibited at Karamu House. Under-appreciated during his lifetime, Kosh rarely exhibited or sold his work. It was only after he passed that he gained significant recognition for his contributions to the art world.

Died 1993 in Cleveland, OH
