Louis Mendez
Famed sculptor Louis Mendez crafted many of his sculptures using his signature technique of “Spanish Handbuilding”, which involved utilizing textured slabs with imagery reminiscent of diverse ancient cultures. This technique was revolutionary in separating ceramics from the “craft” definition and allowing it to fall under the definition of “art form”. Mendez created a small selection of oil paintings throughout his career, multiple of which Postwar Gallery has in its collection.
