Lester Ambrose

Lester Joseph Ambrose was a talented artist working in the beginnings of the social realism movement. He depicted domestic scenes, views of interiors, parties, painters, often with a narrative quality. His work has a lighthearted feel, and his figures seem paused in the midst of a story. As he also worked as an illustrator and cartoonist with the Chicago Tribune and other papers. This experience added a weightless, animated quality to the people and objects in his paintings.
